Operator Recertification
We certify operators through the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research), and NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators), both of which are organizations nationally accredited through ANSI and recognized by OSHA. Recertification is required every five years for both certs. For further information or to register for a class, email Desiree at
Recert options for NCCER:
NCCER recertification consists of written and practical examinations in each crane type you were originally certified in. We have three options for NCCER recert candidates:
Option 1: Re-certification candidates are welcome in any of our rookie certification classes and you may choose to attend as much or as little of the prep class as you think you need. The cost for attending the full class, minus the practical training day, is $1750 and you can see this year's schedule here.
Option 2: We also offer shortened classes specifically for NCCER recert candidates. They are composed of just one day of classroom prep, followed by written exams on the morning of the second day. Practical exams are usually scheduled onsite by appointment, due to the large number of different crane types needed for recert candidates. Study materials will be sent to the candidates in advance along with homework assignments. NCCER recert/short classes are also open to experienced operators who have not been certified before but would like a fast-track option. The following NCCER recert classes are scheduled for the 2024/25 season:
September 19 - 20, 2024, Concord, NH
December 5 - 6, 2024, AGCVT in Montpelier, VT
January 9 - 10, 2025, Concord, NH
March 6 - 7, 2025, Portland, ME
March 20 - 21, 2025, Burlington, VT
April 24 - 25, 2025, Concord, NH
June 5 - 6, 2025, Concord, NH
Option 3: NCCER recert candidates who don't feel they need any help prepping at all can test by appointment. Call or email to arrange this.
Recert options for NCCCO candidates:
We do NCCCO classes at twice a year at Shawmut Equipment in South Easton, MA, and we can accept recert candidates in these classes at a reduced registration fee. We also offer private tutoring for those who need individual help prepping for the CCO recert exams and want to set up written testing directly with NCCCO (practical exams are not required for recert candidates who have 1000 hours in the previous five years). We also offer recert prep classes onsite for groups.
